Interim HealthCare
What comes to mind when you think of home healthcare? Is it an elderly person sitting in a wheelchair while someone feeds and bathes them? If that’s where your mind went, you’re not alone.
According to a recent study from Home Health Insights, nearly one-third of Americans believe home healthcare services are only for seniors or aging adults. However, the truth is, home healthcare is beneficial for patients of all ages with various conditions.
The Benefits of Home Healthcare Services for Young People
Though you typically hear of elderly people using the services more often, home healthcare doesn’t have any age restrictions. And, the advantages of receiving healthcare in your home are the same whether you are young or old.
Some of the benefits of home health care for young adults include:
- You’re able to recover at home rather than in a hospital or skilled nursing facility

- You get assistance with day-to-day tasks like bathing, dressing, and meal preparation
- You have access to licensed medical professionals without having to leave your house
- The care is tailored to meet your need unique needs
- You receive personalized, one-on-one care and support from medical professionals
- Recovering from an illness or injury at home has proven to allow for faster recovery
What Home Healthcare Services Are Available for Young People?
Although Interim HealthCare offers specialized services for a multitude of illnesses, below is a list of our five most common services that are offered to patients of all ages.
1. Treatment of Hypertension / Blood Pressure
Regardless of your age, when blood pressure is not controlled, you’re at risk of heart attack, stroke, chronic kidney disease, and even problems with your vision. One of the ways you can help prevent and control high blood pressure is to make some lifestyle changes. This can often mean a combination of medication, light exercise, and diet changes.
Home healthcare can help with customizing a service plan which can include:
- Medication reminders and/or medication management
- Shopping
- Meal preparation
- Monitoring of healthy movement
Home care nurses often provide specialty care to adult and pediatric patients with medically complex needs. One of the most complicated patient requirements is the use of a ventilator in order to maintain breathing. These patients must have a competent nurse with current knowledge of and experience with the latest medical technology. Home care nurses must have the ability to work with patients and their families who are experiencing the challenges associated with ventilator use.
3. Wound Care At Home
Home care clinicians are trained and experienced in wound management, the healing process, and the selection and use of effective wound products and devices.
Interim HealthCare nurses and therapists have access to the latest standards of practice and products for wound care. This includes a comprehensive clinical training program that has been designed to:
- Improve patient comfort
- Decrease time spent on dressing changes
- Improve healing time
- Prevent complications
- Improve patient outcomes
No matter their age, veterans require and deserve a special level of care. Whether it is skilled home health care for wounded warriors, hospice services, or making a difference with some personal care and extra assistance, home care providers understand how important it is to make sure that our veterans have access to the care and benefits they’ve earned.
An important benefit offered by Veterans Affairs (VA) to veterans, veteran spouses, or surviving spouses is the Aid and Attendance program. Aid and Attendance is for applicants who need financial help for in-home care, to pay for an assisted living facility or a nursing home. It is a non-service connected disability benefit, meaning the disability does not have to be a result of service and is paid in addition to a veteran’s basic pension.
5. Mental Health and Depression
Mental illness requires diagnosis and treatment just as physical conditions do. Mental health is an important part of our overall health and can directly affect our physical well-being.
Home care professionals can support the treatment of individuals and help them live with, and in many cases, recover from a mental illness. Psychiatric nurses, counselors, and social workers work with mental health professionals, including psychiatrists and psychologists, to create a home care plan supporting an individual’s treatment and management of daily life.
